Safeguarding

Holmleigh Primary School is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its pupils. It is the duty of all members of staff, both teaching and non-teaching, to play an active roll in ensuring this. All members of staff are expected to be aware of and follow the Safeguarding procedures. In particular they need to be aware of their duty to report concerns, the guidance for identifying child abuse, what to do if a child makes an allegation of child abuse and issues about confidentiality.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of its pupils. We recognise that some children may be especially vulnerable to abuse and that children who are abused or neglected may find it difficult to achieve academically.

The school pays full regard to DfE guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education September 2023. We ensure that all appropriate measures are applied in relation to everyone who works in the school who is likely to be perceived by the children as a safe and trustworthy adult including e.g. volunteers and staff employed by contractors. Safer recruitment practice includes scrutinising applicants, verifying identity and academic or vocational qualifications, obtaining professional and character references, checking previous employment history and ensuring that a candidate has the health and physical capacity for the job. It also includes undertaking interviews and, where appropriate, ISA and Criminal Records Bureau checks.

In this respect, everyone at Holmleigh Primary School and its Nursery who comes into contact with children and their families have a role to play in safeguarding children. School and Nursery staff are particularly important in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children as we are in a position to identify concerns early and provide help for children to prevent concerns from escalating.  We will work with social care, the police, health services and other services to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.
