27 Mar World Autism Acceptance Week
Today is the start of World Autism Acceptance Week!
We all know someone who is Autistic. How can we understand and support a friend, colleague, or relative with autism? The most helpful thing we can do is to understand what autism is and how it can affect people.
Watch the animation video below to find out the key aspects of Autism. What can you take from that?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbwRrVw-CRo
Then watch the second video, which contains lots of practical tips. What tips would you put into practice to support someone with autism in your class, family, place of work, or neighbourhood?
Understanding is the first step to acceptance.
To help Holmleigh children to understand autism and equip them with awareness and knowledge to accept and empathise with autistic people, we held Ks1 and Ks2 assemblies. The children will learn more about autism in their lessons and participate in activities appropriate to their age.
